Cedar Point day. No need for to early of a start as the park doesn't open until 11:00. This time of year they are only open weekends. I should have expected a crowd but didn't expect what we found. You drive a 2 mile long causeway to get into the park. One hour later we reach the parking gate to pay for parking. That might have been a clue. You can tell the world has changed as before you can buy tickets to go into the park you go through a security gate much like TSA at airports. It wasn't too long, only 15 minutes to then go get into the ticket line. As they have with many parks now, they also sell a fast pass ticket which provides a faster access to rides. I regretted not considering doing that, but that required an additional line to get that pass.
The first coaster I was in line for was the Raptor. 3 hours later I was close to the front of the line when the ride needed a maintenance stop of 20 minutes. I finally got to ride, and it was terrific. Not worthy of a 3.5 hour wait but terrific none the less. The thing that amazed me was the number of people that stood in that line and the others that suggested a wait time of 2+ hours.




It was easy to see why this is a popular park. Although many times rides we wanted to get in line for were closed for maintenance, it was expected they would reopen before the day was out. We just didn't have the time to wait to make sure. We have been blessed with very nice weather, although the humidity is much more than we are accustom to.

    Wow! Never realized that you guys like coasters! So do we! Although probably wouldn't wait in line that long, lol! Have fun!

    Three and a half hours for one ride is way too long. I wouldn't go on the ride if it was free with no wait. I prefer the old style roller coasters that stay upright. Looks like you are enjoying your trip. Since you've been away and Joe broke his leg the beer is lasting much longer in Dave's garage.

We departed Blue Jay Campsites about 9 this morning continuing our drive through the Adirondack Park. Saranac Lake is the first place we come too and then Lake Placid, home of the US winter Olympics. We then took 9n to hwy 22 and south to Ticonderoga. Back in 2006 Deb and I rode motorcycles into Ticonderoga, with friends from Reno, and stayed at the Stone House Motel, next door to a house once occupied by Benjamin Franklin. We did not remember any of this however until totally by coincidence we stopped across the street from that very same motel. Throughout the early part of day, we rode through the mountains of the park watching as various trees showed the beginning of amazing colors changes. The National Museum of the Marine Corp was amazing. Really well laid out with numerous docents to answer questions. Telling the history of the Corp from the late 1700's complete with authentic weapons and sabers. We spent 3 hours and could have easily spent 3 more. Mon we left and headed for Shenandoah NP. 105 miles with 75 turn outs. We stopped at maybe 50-60 of them. Such a pretty day with such inspiring vistas across many miles. A very nice map in the visitors center highlighted many of the points of interest. We can see the color is trying and it is certainly better here than the last couple days. Mostly a tree here, a tree there but it is easy to see what the blanket would look like if timed correctly. We had one stop with a sign detailing what the ridges were. We spent Wed night in Kinsley, Ks and got an early start as we continued west on secondary highways. Two lane roads and few if any trucks. While there wasn't nearly as much color as earlier we discovered it wasn't completely gone. We want to get to Alamosa, Co so we will have a short drive into Durango. That of course means we are going to be headed into the mountains. The mountains in the distance all showed the recent snows, but the roads are clear and the sky in blue. Really a beautiful drive though different than what we had been looking at. All the snow appears to have landed on the eastern slopes of the mountains and as we went through the pass and started down the other side we noticed a significantly lesser amount on the ground.
