All I can say is WOW. There has been a color explosion since we arrived in Acadia National Park. This is a kayaker's dream with the numerous lakes, coves, harbors and inlets. Each of the past 2 mornings we have gotten up and grabbed a cup of coffee and headed for the shoreline a couple miles away hoping for a sunrise. Tue was like this
Wed morning was like this
Leaving the "Seawall Picnic Area" we met a friend.
She stayed nice and still as we took her photo.
Tue we started by visiting the Schoodic peninsula part of the park. This area served as a Navy communications center from 1935 until 2002 when it was turned over to the park and they created the Schoodic Research Institute. We visited the welcome center where my sister spent a summer as a volunteer host.
The shoreline along the peninsula is stunning.
We returned to the main part of the park and drove the 27 mile loop after taking a chance and going to the top of Cadillac Mt. Unfortunately there is very limited parking and it was almost a wasted drive. We wandered back to the bottom and started the loop. A sandy beach, a rarity along this coastal area.
There are 45 miles of historic gravel carriage roads for walkers, hikers, bikers and horses, but no motorized vehicles expect carts for the disabled. Through it all one can not escape the AMAZING color that has exploded everywhere.
You can tell we have tried to capture the color but much like taking pictures of the Grand Canyon, nothing comes close to being here.
