We depart Woodland under some of the nicest skies in days. We can see blue and shadows on the road. We are driving the backroads through PA through farm land and trees. The rolling hills are what I call whoopee hills. You go over the crest and feel your stomach fall. We don't take many photos as there is non e of the fall colors, but once in a while a single tree will show a few leaves in orange.
The target for the next few days is the Prince William Forest RV campground. We will be here for 4 nights. This turns our to be a very nice NP campground run by concessionaires with water and electric at the sites. Nice pull throughs and excellent bathhouse facilities. The only thing lacking is the wifi. Seems to last for 2 minutes and then quick, but I was informed it was weak when I called to set up the stay. I chose them as they are 30 miles from DC and the days trips we had planned.

Fri is Arlington National Cemetery day. The last time I was here was the summer of 1964. Back then the Kennedy grave site was still a temp site. Since they originally made it a permanent site they have since expanded it to accommodate the crowds. His wife is now laid to rest next to him with markers for both of his kids, when there time comes.
After that the next stop was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If you don't know the story of what it takes to be an honor guard it is very much worth reading the story. Along with watching the changing of the guard ceremony, we also got to witness a wreath laying ceremony and the playing of Taps.

The primary reason for this visit however remained the visit to the grave site of my Mom & Dad. Sec 76 plot 367. We were delayed access briefly because of an on going funeral. One of 27 this day and nearly 10,000 a year performed at Arlington.

This is an amazing complex with more than 433,000 souls resting there.

Sat we took a drive to Annapolis. We found some rural roads that took us through some very nice neighborhoods. A lot of homes backed up to the water but vistas were harder to find.
A shot of the Bay was hundreds of boats. We had lunch at a sort of ritzy water front restaurant, Sam's Waterfront Cafe. Had to go through a security gate to get to it.

Continued touring on our own we found a WW II memorial.
I hope you can expand the plaque and read what it says. It is one of the must moving tributes I have ever seen. I certainly did not realize more the 12 MILLION American men and women were sent forth to participate in that war. More than 287,000 from Maryland alone of which nearly 6500 gave their all.
Sunday is a mostly low key day with a tour of the National Museum of the Marine Corp. Then prep to watch some football. We have been fortunate that everywhere we have been we have found a place with access to ALL the games. Strange season.
Tomorrow we leave here and head for Shenandoah National Park to begin the run south.
